charge:
(plural: ‘charges‘; pronunciation: the letters ‘ch’ rhyme with the letters ‘ch’ in “church”; for the right pronunciation of this word, please click here)
a person, usually a young boy or girl, for which an older person is responsible,

a warden/teacher with her charges
“The warden of our hostel takes good care of her charges.” ( ‘charges’ = the young students of a hostel, boarding school, day care centre, etc.)
When my sister and her husband go out, they leave me in charge of the entire house and the children automatically become my charges.
There are reports that a number of teachers and wardens of primary schools are accused of molesting their charges. (i.e. many school teachers and wardens misbehave (sexually) with the pupils/students they are supposed to take care and look after well)
