The cotton stainer is the most destructive cotton pest. It also attacks fruit bearing trees, such as orange, peach, etc. and the ornamental plants. It is given the name ‘stainer’ as it stains the cotton fibre with a brownish yellow colour when it makes holes in the cotton bolls and sucks up the sap (juice) and eats up the growing seeds inside the bolls.
