a water diviner with his 'diving rod'
In the past, a person, especially a religious person, who could foresee future events, either by guess or experience, was highly respected and addressed with the title ‘diviner’.
There are people who go to a diviner whenever they face with a domestic problem so that the diviner may give them some solution to solve the problem or, at least, to keep the problem less complicated.
It is surprising to learn that people, even well-educated city dwellers, seek the advice of water diviners, also called ‘dowsers’, who use ‘diving rod’ or ‘drowsing rod’, in finding underground water sources!
