environmentalist:
(also ‘conservationist‘ & ‘ecologist‘; plural: ‘environmentalists‘)

Vandana Shiva, environmentalist, India
a person who tries to keep (save) and to educate others to save the natural environment on the earth from being spoiled by people releasing pollutants into the environment;
a person who believes that differences between individuals or groups, esp. in moral and intellectual behaviour, are chiefly determined by environmental factors, such as surroundings that one lives in, upbringing — the financial status, parents’ education and occupation, or experiences they have in their routine or normal lives (here the word ‘environmental’ has nothing do with ‘air’, ‘water’ and ‘land’ on the earth),
{The opposite word in meaning to this word, in this context, is “heredity”, and the person who believes this theory is called a “hereditarian”.}

Al Gore, Jr., former vice president & noted environmentalist, USA
My high school teacher was an environmentalist who tried to teach us the importance of keep our surrounding clean so that we have health and wealth.
It is sad to learn that Mr Al Gore, the former vice president of the US who tried his best with all the resources he could muster, has been made an infamous environmentalist when he tried to warn the people of the dangerous consequences of global warming.
There are several environmentalists, though branded as protesters, alarmists and anti-progress elements by business people and politicians, are risking their lives to educate people of the world in general and people of the industrial nations to stop polluting the environment by releasing industrial, chemical and nuclear wastes into the atmosphere!
Environmentalists are often called ‘the green journalists’ for contributing their observations and opinions on the current changes in the environment in the print and electronic media.
Most (behavioural) environmentalists believe that a child’s character, intelligence and aptitude depend on the surroundings he/she is brought up in; however, this theory is opposed by hereditarians, those who believe that a person’s behaviour depends on heredity!
