(plural: ‘followers‘; for the right pronunciation, please click here)

a leader and his followers
a person who shows extreme support and/or admiration for another person (usually a teacher) a belief or cause;
a person who believes another person (leader) and the person’s opinions and ideas, and does as he/she has been told without question, especially in political and religious beliefs; a devotee;
a fan; a supporter,

a religious leader and her followers
Jose and his brother are always at loggerheads because Jose is an ardent follower of a football player whom Jose’s brother hates and Jose’s brother is a staunch follower of a social media network which Jose despises.
There are ‘religious gurus’ who acquire countless number of followers within a short period of time, as if by magic, and amass large sums of money in the form of donations and contributions and build their empires and rule over the lives of their gullible followers and the state politics as well!
Of all the kinds of followers, the political followers are the ones who keep taking sucker punches either way for the simple reasons that if their leader wins, they are neglected because their leader gets busy making new alliances and adjustments with his very foes against whom his/her followers fought risking their lives, and if their leader loses, they are blamed for being insincere and inefficient.
