Young Rob, the youngest son of my neighbour, has run away again; he’s such a gadabout that he can’t stay put at home for more than a quarter of an year.
Though, originally, a gadabout was the one who went about places without a specific destination in mind just in search of pleasure, gadabouts these days are those people who tour around some chartered destinations for some charity fund raising or social awareness activities, such as cycling from coast to coast, or sailing or swimming from one port to another, or even walking or running across a vast areas.
Some artists, especially painters and musicians, become typical gadabouts while they are at an early stage of their career, going about popular places of interest, like pilgrims to holy places, where they can watch and learn from the other artists in different cities in their own countries or in some foreign countries.
