a gadfly
a kind of insect – belongs to the ‘true flies’ – brown, black or grey body with two antennae 6 legs but only one pair of wings (i.e. only two wings); grows to ¼ of an inch to 1 inch; feeds on (eats) plant matter, decaying vegetables and faecal (shit), in addition the females suck blood of mammals for their egg production; lives for a few weeks to a few months; found everywhere, except Hawaii, Ice land and Greenland,
Unlike most other ‘true flies’, the gadfly, known by its more common name ‘horse fly’ bites the other animals. Their bite is known to be very painful.
Though gadflies, like other flies, feed on plant matter, the female ‘gadflies or horse flies’ need the blood of mammals, including humans, to produce their eggs!
The gadflies make a lot of buzzing noise while flying that is very annoying!
Some of the larger ‘gadfly or horse fly’ grow up to 1 inch long!!
gadfly = an annoying, irritating and harassing person; a person who continuously points out faults of others and annoys other in an effort to improve them or their work
