geologist:
(plural: ‘geologists‘; pronunciation: the letters ‘g’ in this word rhyme with the letter ‘j’ in the word “judge”)

( layers an area)
a person who studies and knows about geology;
a scientist who knows where to find natural minerals, such as oil, gas and metals, in the earth,

a geologist hard at work
One of my cousins is a geologist working for the Oil and Natural Gas Commission of India.
Like in every other profession, there are two categories of geologists: one, amateur geologists and professional geologists; amateur geologists include geology teachers who do some geological study and take their students on field trips, and professional geologists include engineering geologists, exploration geologists, marine geologists, and so on.
We see a lot of geologists, local and foreign, living in our district because there are several mining and quarrying activities going on in our region.
Some geologists take up permanent jobs in exploration companies but some others work as consultant geologists to companies which need expert opinions before they start up land related ventures.
