legislator:
(plural: ‘legislators‘; pronunciation: the letter ‘e’ rhymes with the letter ‘e’ in “bed”, ‘g’ rhymes with the letter ‘g’ in “danger”)

local legislators in a session
a maker of laws; a person who is elected by the people to make laws;
a member of a law making body of a place/country;

a body of legislators on the floor
In the USA, the president is also addressed as the chief legislator, and is treated as one in the law making activities.
In some countries, the political party with more number of legislators forms the government and rules the country for a specified period of time.
The legislators must be very responsible and impartial because they have the highest powers to make new laws and/or make changes to the existing laws.
Though they are in such a responsible position, some corrupt legislators join hands with criminals and illegal businesses to amass wealth, making people’s trust worthless.
