a member of a group of people who, following the ideology developed by Mao, takes up arms/weapons and fights against the capitalist political system in their own country to over-throw the existing government in order to establish a socialistic government, and/or helps people with the same ideology in other countries in over-throwing those capitalist governments,
Once a man or woman is labelled as a Maoist, he/she becomes an enemy to the state and lives a life of an outlaw.
The news of Maoists killing people and the police special squads ‘encountering’ the Maoists is common in places where Maoists are established.
In countries like India and Nepal, Maoists have thousands of sympathisers and to curb the growing strength of the Maoists, governments put in a lot of money and efforts, but to no avail.
According to some political experts, Maoists take full advantage of prevailing political unrest within a government, natural calamities that wreak (cause) havoc on the lives of farmers and agricultural labourers and increasing unemployment of educated youth in urban regions.
