masochist:
(plural: ‘masochists‘; pronunciation: the letters ‘ch’ are said with a ‘k’ sound, as in “king” — for the right pronunciation of this word, please click here)
a person who feels happy when he/she receives pain;
a person who gets pleasure when hurt, punished or given pain, usually sexual pleasure,
The opposite word in meaning to ‘masochist’ is ‘sadist’ because a ‘sadist’ is a person who gets pleasure from giving pain to others, but a ‘masochist’ is a person who gets pleasure from receiving pain to his/her own self, and ‘sadomasochist’ is a person who gets pleasure from giving pain to others and receiving pain to own self.
Some psychologists are in the opinion that most of us are masochists or there is some degree of masochistic tendency in most of us.
According to some historians, sadism, masochism and sadomasochism are not new phenomena and there have been sadists, masochists and sadomasochists throughout our past history and will be there in the future.
