mercenary:
(short form: ‘merc’; plural: ‘mercenaries‘; for the British pronunciation of this word, please click here and for the American pronunciation, please click here)
a person who, without any principles or morals, does anything or works for anybody just for money or other material benefits;
a soldier who fights for any group or country that pays good money or for any material gains, usually fights in foreign countries — countries other than his/her own,
After retiring from the active military service as a major, Donald fought in several wars in Africa as a mercenary earning a lot of money.
It is common knowledge that small warring countries in Africa and the middle east hire mercenaries who are mostly from western countries to win a war, either a war within their own countries or against neighbouring countries .
Surprisingly, countries like the USA and the UK, in a bid to face the new budget cuts, are cutting down on the number of the soldiers in their armies with plans to hire mercenaries on contract basis whenever a need for military action in any foreign country arises!
