mess:
(plural: ‘messes‘)
a person who is dirty and in a bad condition;
a group of people, usually military personnel, that eat at together in a ‘mess hall’,
Rita has few friends because she is a mess, dirty, indecent and clumsy.
It’s interesting to know that when you say someone is a mess, you’re hugged because they think you appreciate them because ‘mess’ for them means ‘smart’ or ‘cute’, but when you say the same to someone else in a different place, you’re kicked hard because they think you abuse them because ‘mess’ for them means dirty, nasty, etc.!
The most puzzling issue to psychologists is: why some well-educated, well-broughtup and beautiful women fall for complete messes, men who have nothing, no manners, no education, no decency and no money!

the mess (a group of people eating together) & the mess (the place where people eat their meals — a mess hall)
