mimic:
(plural: ‘mimics‘; pronunciation: the letter ‘c’ is said with a ‘k’ sound as in “king”)
a person who does as an other person does or repeats what another person says, usually for amusing others, as a profession or just for fun;
an actor or actress in an entertainment/funny show called ‘mime’;
She is a talented mimic and can mimic any politician or film actor. (in this sentence, the first ‘mimic’ is a noun, a person, and the second one is a verb, ‘can mimic’, expression the act of ‘doing like others’)
Adults should be extremely careful what they do or say when there are children around because children are the best mimics and do or say what they see and hear without actually knowing the harm of some of those expressions.
Most professional mimics these days come from special institutions that train young people in mimicry.
Note 2: ‘Mimic’ is more commonly used as a verb to mean ‘to do or say as an other person or persons’, e.g. “I hate my students when they mimic me and my way of teaching.”
