Neanderthal/Neanderthal man:
(also with the spelling: ‘Neandertal’; plural: ‘Neanderthals‘/’Neanderthal men’; for the right pronunciation, please click here)
a member of a group of human-like creatures that were extinct (died out completely) long ago, from which the scientists believed that we, humans, evolved, which theory is now proven wrong;
(in the current usage) any foolish, slow-minded person,
In the past, Neanderthals were thought to be unintelligent/slow-minded, but recent studies have shown that Neanderthals were more intelligent than our scientists thought.
There are differences of opinion in the scientific circles as to whether Neanderthals and present day people (Homo Sapiens) interbred and whether the present day people were the cause of their extinction.
In our day to day life we see several kinds of Neanderthals in our society, who act as if they were without brains or with very slow brains in dealing with every day affairs.
