a person suffering from nervous disorders (neurosis);
a person who easily gets over-excited or becomes emotional, anxious or upset,
e.g.
A neurotic must see a neurologist or, those neurotics in very serious condition, a psychiatrist.
Experts are in the opinion that the stress of modern life is breeding many neurotics who get excited or upset about very simple or normal things.
The neurotics who take to violence are sent to psychiatrists who can deal better with patients of this kind of extreme behaviour.
Note: ‘Neurotic’ is more commonly used as an adjective, e.g. ‘neurotic personality’, ‘neurotic people’, and ‘neurotic about punctuality’, i.e. about a person who becomes upset about being late for some appointment or becomes emotional when people are not punctual to their duties.
