‘obstetrics’ = the branch of medical science that deals with the care of pregnant woman — before, during and immediately after a woman gives birth
a doctor/physician who is an expert in obstetrics,
e.g.
My niece is an obstetrician who can handle any complication a pregnant woman might encounter in the process of delivering her baby.
To save the child and the mother, obstetricians often opt for forced delivery, usually through a caesarian, an operation in which the pregnant woman’s abdomen is cut open to bring the baby out of the womb.
It’s very important that the obstetricians keep their cool in emergency cases as it’s not only the mother but also the baby that suffers the consequences as a result of their losing their presence of mind.
