painter:
(plural: ‘painters‘)
a person who puts/applies paint/colour on some surface, such as walls of a building, surfaces of wooden or iron furniture and boxes, etc. as a job;
a person or an artist who uses colours/paints in his art or drawings,
e.g.
This building owner is looking for a couple of painters to paint it.
There are a lot of paintings (pictures) by very famous painters (artists) at the painting exhibition.
A painter should know what type of paint is needed for what kind of surface he/she paints.
{Note: “Painter” is also used to refer to a strong length of rope attached to the bow of a boat that is used to tie the boat to a post or used to tow the boat; and also (in the Americas) a big cat that looks like a lion, also called ‘mountain lion‘, ‘panther’, etc.}
