pilgrim:
(plural: ‘pilgrims‘; pronunciation: the letters ‘gr’ is said with a ‘gr’ sound as in “ground” and the letter ‘i’ rhymes with the letter ‘a’ in “about”)
a person or a religious person who travels to a far away place of worship or a holy or historic place in order to say his/her prayers there, especially as a tradition;
(less commonly) a traveller on a trip to some place, not necessarily a religious person and not necessarily to a holy place,
e.g.
Pilgrims on a pilgrimage are common in most religions.
Records show us that there were pilgrims making pilgrimages in ancient cultures, such as ancient Egyptians, Indians, Japanese, etc.
{Note: ‘Pilgrim Fathers’ were those English people who travelled from England to America in search of a new and unspoiled place in 1620 and settled there because they thought the place they were living, England, was spoiled by the evil and had become ungodly.}
