(plural: ‘rentiers‘; pronunciation: for the right pronunciation, please click here)
a person who doesn’t work for a living, but lives on investments, property, bond interests, brand loyalty, copyrights, or rents,
Jenny, the only rentier in our family, has never had to look for a job as she has a considerable amount of income from her investments.
This is a club of rentiers whose bank balances are full to the brim from their properties, investments or real estate.
Most of the rentiers who enjoyed a wonderful lifestyle earlier are facing problems as a result of the falling shares, bank closures and less interest rates on their lump sum amounts and are now depending on some sort of income to meet their bills, mostly by engaging themselves in online income generating activities.
Note 2: ‘Rentier’ & ‘Rentiers’, always with a capital first ‘R’, is often found in the names of people, e.g. Marco Rentier, Rudi Rentier, William Rentiers, etc.
