(plural: ‘seismologists‘; for the right pronunciation of this word, please click here)
a scientist who studies and so knows about the structure of the earth and what causes earthquakes,
Being a seismologist, Kate always keeps her seismometers running all the time, one at her office and another one at her home to continuously observe the movements in the earth within her jurisdiction.
Most seismologists are employed by the governments around the world to learn about the condition of the earth’s inside structure so that they can develop an area if it’s found to be less prone to earthquake or to avoid if it’s found to be more prone to seismic disturbances.
Seismologists work hand in glove with volcanologists, those scientists who study volcanoes, and palaeontologists who study the life that existed in prehistoric times from the fossil samples found in the earth, in order to asses a place… whether it is in an earthquake zone or in a safe zone.
