Protestant:

The word ‘Protestant’ came from Latin ‘protestari’, meaning publicly declare or protest — protest against the then religious practices of the Roman Catholic Church, which in turn means ‘protesters against Roman Catholic Church.

Catholic (L) & Protestant (R)

(always with a capital ‘P’) a person/Christian belonging to the Western Christian Church, who believes in the Bible, basing on the Reformation brought out by Martin Luther and John Calvin, (different or separate from the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Church), that began in about 16th century,

It is quite evident that Protestant Churches and Protestants reject the Roman Catholic and Orthodox religious practices.

‘Protestant’ is more commonly used as an adjective to refer to practices and ways in which Protestants worship God, e.g. “Protestant Church”, “Protestant ministers”, “Protestant reforms”, etc.
