Note: ‘Female’ is more commonly used as an adjective to refer to a human, plant or animal that gives birth to babies, gives flowers that turn into fruits or lays eggs that hatch into nestling or hatchling, e.g. female flowers in plants, female charm in humans, female reproductive organs, female dominance in animals, etc. However, there are cases where a female human, plant or animal cannot give birth to babies or lay eggs, i.e. not fertile, for example, “In ant society, all the worker ants are female but they cannot lay eggs as a queen ant does.” & “Some human females are barren, i.e. they cannot bear children naturally, but, with the help of a medical treatment called ‘artificial insemination’, they too can bear children.” For an article in which we can find this word being used as an adjective in the heading written in red “female victims of clergy abuse”, and as a noun in plural in the sub-heading “Clergy sex abuse of females complicates intricate issues”, please click here.
