the intelligentsia (Nobel Laureates 2008)
One of my maternal uncles is a member of our town’s intelligentsia, enjoying more clout than most other men of his age.
Being the intelligentsia of the organisation, they make most of the decisions, and when everything goes well, they take the credit but when anything goes wrong, they blame the less privileged people in lower positions.
Like in every other category, there are several types of intelligentsia: political intelligentsia, middle-class intelligentsia, working-class intelligentsia, industrial intelligentsia, toiling intelligentsia, revolutionary intelligentsia, socialist intelligentsia, and so on!
Some non-intellectuals bemoan that the intelligentsia has never given a thought for patriots.
