highbrow:
(plural: ‘highbrows‘; for the right pronunciation of this word, please click here)
a person whom others think has more than average education and knowledge,
a highly educated person,

a highbrow, Albert Einstein
A highbrow’s interests include ‘ballet‘, ‘opera (classical music)’, ‘literature’ and the global financial crisis.
The media have to be extra careful when they attend a seminar attended by a galaxy of highbrows such as Nobel laureates, literary giants, famous opera singers and heads of international financial institutions because the issues they discuss are of high standards and those who are not familiar with that kind of terminology are worse than fish out water.
A highbrow enjoys Mozart’s symphony but a lowbrow likes to attend a local pop musical night, and a highbrow enjoys discussing global warming, whereas the lowbrow may find great entertainment in the local newspaper gossip column, and a ‘middlebrow’, as the name suggests, has a taste of the opera and the pop, never letting one taste dominate the other!
