plaintiff:
(also ‘claimant‘; plural: ‘plaintiffs‘; the opposite word in meaning is ‘defendant‘ — for the right pronunciation of this word, please click here)
a person who files a legal case against another person in a court of law, i.e. he/she approaches the court for some injustice done to him/her,
e.g.
The judge asked the plaintiff if the defendant was in the court, and if so to point him out to her.
In some divorce cases male plaintiffs do not enjoy as much sympathy as the female plaintiffs do. i.e. if a woman asks for a divorce, the jurors, the public and even the judge feels sorry for her, but in some cases, if a man asks for a divorce, nobody feels sorry for him.
