plainsman:
(plural: ‘plainsmen’; pronunciation: ‘plains…man’)
a person or settler who lives on a plain region of a continent, especially an inhabitant or settler of the Great Plains (prairies) of North America,
e.g.
Though the life of a plainsman seems comfortable on the plains, unlike the desert or forest dwellers, highlanders, etc., it certainly is not as glamourous as it is made to believe.
{Note: ‘Plainclothes man’, on the other hand, is a police officer/detective who wears ordinary civilian clothes (instead of the regular uniform) on duty in order to work secretly to watch and catch criminals, e.g. ‘As this market place is full of smugglers, drug dealers and pickpockets, a posse of plainclothes men is on duty all the day to keep an eye on the criminals. i.e. a group of policemen in their causal clothes mingle with the crowd so that the criminals do not know that the police are there watching their activities and so they continue with their criminal activities and then the plainclothes men catch them red-handed easily.}
