It’s surprising to learn that even though he’s a medical doctor and man of science, John often consults his family soothsayer to find out about his future.
The soothsayers make a good business playing with the anxieties and ignorance of the people who, out of their greed and desperation, shell out whatever amount is demanded just to hear some vague encouraging words.
Some of the names we hear in connection with people who predicts future as a profession or passion are: astrologers, augurs, clairvoyants, crystal-ball gazers, diviners, fortune-tellers, horoscopists, mediums, oracles, palm readers/palmists, prognosticators, psychics, seers, soothsayers, and prophets!
