sophomore:
(in short: ‘soph‘; plural: ‘sophomores‘; for the right pronunciation of this word, please click here)
a tenth-grade student in any US high school;
a second-year student in any US & Canadian college;
a player in the second year of his membership in any sports club;
a person who is in the second year of doing something (some endeavour),
Rules in the college changed a lot since I was a sophomore… freshers have been given more freedom, sophomores have been given more responsibilities and seniors have been asked to present their projects on time.
There are several colleges who encourage their sophomores to live on the campus as the studies have shown that those sophomores who leave university campus and live in the nearby residential faciliites are more vulnerable to distractions and are more prone to dropping out.
As our football club has more sophomores but fewer seniors, our team manager and team coach are planning to invite more experienced and recognised players from the other clubs.
