(plural: ‘steeplejacks‘; for the right pronunciation of this word, please click here)
a skilled construction worker who builds, repairs, paints, maintains tall/high structures, such as towers, steeples of churches or temples, industrial and home chimneys, etc.,
When the committee members of the church decided to get the steeple repaired and repainted, they approached the best in town steeplejack who did his job with skill and veneration.
Though the job opportunities seem very limited, skilled steeplejacks are in great demand in cities where we see high-rise buildings and towers, in industrial areas where we see factories with high/tall smoke exhausts or chimneys and even in remote towns where we see old churches or old mansions with high steeples.
Steeplejacks are very much needed in cities where we find skyscrapers, tall buildings that seem to be touching the sky, for installing red lights to warn the low-flying aeroplanes and helicopters, to install and maintain helipads on the roofs where helicopters can land, and to repair, install and maintain lightning rods, strong copper rods or wire, to absorb any flow of current when the lightning strikes in the cloudy sky and send it to the earth below.
